Mt. Constitution Summit

The highest point in the San Juan Islands at 2,409 feet. The historic stone observation tower offers 360-degree panoramic views of the islands, Cascades, and Olympics. Spectacular sunsets over the islands with the Olympic Mountains silhouetted on the horizon.

Turtleback Mountain South Summit

A moderate 3.2-mile round trip hike rewards with sweeping westward views over the San Juan Channel and neighboring islands. The grassy summit meadow is a perfect spot to spread a blanket and watch the sun dip below the horizon.

Obstruction Pass Beach

SW Year-round

A secluded cobblestone beach reached by a short trail through old-growth forest. Southwest-facing views over Obstruction Pass toward Blakely Island make this one of the most peaceful sunset spots on Orcas.

West Beach Resort

Direct westward views from the beach over President Channel toward Waldron and Stuart Islands. The resort area offers easy access and the beach faces the perfect direction for summer sunsets.

North Beach at Moran State Park

NW Summer

A peaceful lakeshore and forested beach area in Moran State Park with northwest-facing views. The surrounding trees frame the sunset beautifully as light filters through the canopy.

Deer Harbor Marina

W Year-round

Watch the sunset from the marina dock or the nearby restaurant while sailboats bob in the harbor. The protected harbor faces west with views over Wasp Passage and Shaw Island.

Crescent Beach Preserve

SW Year-round

A San Juan County Land Bank preserve with a crescent-shaped beach looking southwest over East Sound. The gentle curve of the beach provides a wide-angle view of the sunset sky reflected in calm waters.

Indian Island Overlook

W 50 ft Spring, Summer, Fall

A short walk leads to an elevated viewpoint overlooking the Indian Island marine reserve. The slight elevation provides a beautiful perspective on sunsets over the southern reach of East Sound.

Cascade Lake Viewpoint

W 450 ft Summer, Fall

Elevated viewpoint above Cascade Lake in Moran State Park. The lake reflects the sunset colors while the surrounding forest provides a dramatic frame. Best accessed from the Cascade Creek Trail.

Ship Bay Viewpoint

SW Year-round

An easily accessible spot overlooking Ship Bay on the eastern side of East Sound. While facing southwest, the wide bay reflects dramatic sunset colors and the surrounding hillsides glow in golden light.
