Grab your coffee like it's a lifeboat—we've got ferry alerts stacked higher than our ferry delays, but at least the weather's cooperating. Sixty-four degrees, zero rain, and golden hour hits at 7:44pm if you can escape whatever traffic nightmare the boat situation creates. Science Fair at noon, Magic Workshop at 4pm, roller skating at 5pm—basically your Saturday is either delightfully nerdy or delightfully wobbly, and frankly both sound better than standing in the ferry line.

Ferry Alert

We will continue trialing an updated pet policy through spring 2026. Dogs on leashes are allowed in all passenger areas during this trial period, except onboard food galleys. Other pets must be in a crate or carrier. Service animals are welcome everywhere, as required by law. Livestock must stay in appropriate enclosures at all times. We are reviewing the trial policy and will provide an update on our pet policy before summer 2026. Learn more on our Pets webpage.

Ferry Alert

In June 2025, we began a seismic retrofit project at the Kingston Ferry Terminal. Construction will last through July 2026. Ferry service will operate as normal, except for a delay of 20-30 minutes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the 9:40 p.m. Kingston to Edmonds departure. This delay may also affect later sailings.

Ferry Alert

Our maintenance crews are at the Fauntleroy terminal the weeks of April 27 and May 4 to make emergency repairs on the vehicle transfer span (the overwater bridge linking the ferry with the dock). The repair work will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and is expected to be completed on Friday, May 8. The timing is set to avoid the morning and evening commutes. For vehicle passengers, please expect delays during the work as only one lane will be available for vehicle loading and unloading. Delays could extend beyond 3 p.m. Crews will be using loud equipment, which is why this work cannot be done at night. This is not a safety issue with the transfer span but is a necessary repair.

Ferry Alert

Starting this Friday, May 1, there will be changes to our fares and multi-ride pass expiration: Passenger and vehicle ticket prices will increase by an average of 3%. The Washington State Transportation Commission approved these changes last summer. A 35% peak season surcharge for single-ride vehicle and motorcycle fares will begin May 1 and last through Sept. 30. It does not apply to passenger and multi-ride tickets. We’ll start a pilot to extend the expiration date for multi-ride passes. For multi-ride passes purchased on or after May 1, they will be valid for 120 days, up from the current 90 days. Ferry Alert

Elevators 1 and 2 at Colman Dock remain out of service due to a mechanical issue. The Alaskan Way #4 Elevator and the Pier 50 elevator (along the front of the building) are both in service and available for customer use. We are working with vendors to get the other elevators repaired and will provide updates as conditions change.

We’ll cover topics including the upcoming FIFA World Cup, an updated pet policy, new vessel construction, and our Service Contingency Plan. Ferry Alert

Tide conditions will cancel one or more sailings from Port Townsend and Coupeville in May. Please see our Tidal Cancellations table for a complete list of affected dates and departures. On Saturday, May 2, the 9:30 a.m. sailing from Port Townsend and the 10:15 a.m. sailing from Coupeville are cancelled due to tidal conditions. Your alternate routes are Edmonds / Kingston and Mukilteo / Clinton.

Ferry Alert

To help keep traffic moving and address ferry line cutting, an automated boarding pass system will begin this weekend at our Kingston terminal. How it works: When lights are flashing on the overhead signs at SR 104 and Barber Cutoff Road, the system is active. Follow the signal: Ferry-bound traffic will follow the traffic signal into a designated lane. Take a pass: Stop at the automated dispenser and take your pass. If you leave the line after taking a pass, you will need to re-enter the line and take a new pass. Wait for green: Once the system detects space at the terminal, your light will turn green. Proceed directly to the tollbooths. Trial period: The system will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in May, as well as Memorial Day, May 25. Standard operations: Beginning Monday, June 1, the system will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during these peak periods: Summer Season: Daily from Mother’s Day through Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Year-Round: Every Saturday and Sunday. Holidays: Daily during the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. We are committed to monitoring the system closely and continuing our work with local partners to improve the quality of life and travel for everyone in Kingston.

This Sunday, May 3, riders on our Vashon Island routes should expect heavier traffic, possible delays and limited space for vehicles. Hundreds of bicyclists will be crossing the island for the Ride for Major Taylor. The heaviest bike traffic is expected: Point Defiance sailings: From 9:15 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. Vashon to Fauntleroy sailings: Late morning through the afternoon If you’re driving onto the ferry, please plan ahead for delays or consider alternate travel times or routes.

Due to urgent engine repairs on the Sealth, the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route will operate with the following schedule adjustments this weekend: Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3: Two-boat schedule with a third, unscheduled boat. During the Ride for Major Taylor bicycle event on Sunday, the third vessel will focus on transporting event participants. For service the week of May 4, we will send another update later this weekend on the repair timeline and when we expect the route to go back to three-boat schedule.
