A paving project on State Route 525 between Paine Field and the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal (project map) began Tuesday, July 28 and will last through the end of the year. Travelers can expect single-lane closures, alternating traffic and pedestrian detours using city roads. Work will take place at night to minimize disruptions for ferry travelers. Learn more on the WSDOT project webpage.  

The traffic signal and boarding pass system at the Kingston terminal is active daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Oct. 12. The boarding pass holds your vehicle's place in line. Ferry tickets are purchased separately.  A boarding pass for vehicles is required before arriving at the terminal ticket booth Follow the signal: Ferry-bound traffic will follow the traffic signal on SR 104 into a designated lane.  View map.   Take a pass: Stop at the automated dispenser and take your pass. If you leave the line after taking a pass, you will need to re-enter the line and take a new pass.   Wait for Green: Once the system detects space at the terminal, your light will turn green. Proceed directly to the tollbooths.   Standard operating days and times  A boarding pass for vehicles is required from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during these peak periods:   Summer Season: Daily from Mother’s Day through Indigenous Peoples’ Day.   Year-Round: Every Saturday and Sunday.   Holidays: Daily during the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.   The purpose of this system is to help improve traffic flow through Kingston and deter ferry line cutting. We are monitoring how the system is working and will make adjustments as needed to improve operations.  

On Wednesday, July 29, the Sanpoil Ferry that crosses the Columbia River, will resume its normal sailing schedule, 6 am to 11:45 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, August 1st and 2nd, the Ferry will temporarily operate 24 7, due to the wind and fire forecast. WSDOT will evaluate further sailing schedules during the weekend.

The #1 elevator on the M/V Suquamish is out of service. The #2 end elevator remains in service and available for customer use. The M/V Suquamish has two ADA compliant elevators and wide staircases that provide access from both car decks to the passenger and sun decks. There are accessible restrooms on the car deck, main passenger deck and the sun deck.

Alaskan Way #5 Elevator is Out of Service at Colman Dock due to a mechanical issue. The Alaskan Way #4 Elevator is in service and available for customer use. We are working with vendors to get the other elevators repaired and will provide updates as conditions change.

Update - Westbound Lopez traffic will be prioritized on #3 Chelan's late 9:25 pm sailing from Anacortes to Lopez, Shaw, and Orcas.  An unscheduled Orcas stop will be also added to the 11:00 p.m. sailing from Anacortes to Friday Harbor as needed. The #1 Yakima is 20 minutes behind schedule for the 9:50 p.m. sailing from Friday Harbor to Orcas, Shaw, Lopez, and Anacortes. Both the passenger and freight elevators on the M/V Wenatchee are out of service. There is no accessible restroom available on the car deck. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. A technician has been called for service. We'll update as conditions change.
